Social Design Unit participates in the 2026 Participatory Design conference

Ilma Stankeviciute from the Social Design Unit presents the paper “Participatory Workshops in Design for Transitions as Affordances for Desired Futures” at the PDC conference in Milan. In the paper Ilma shows that Transition Design’s discourse is largely focused on theorising with a few empirical examples and almost no attention given to personal practical accounts of a facilitator. Given that Design for Transitions is systemic, situated, relational, and participatory, it could benefit from taking into account the rich discourse on facilitation coming from Participatory Design (PD).

Ilma’s research is conducted as part of the 4-year CoDesign4Transitions doctoral network, funded by EU. See more here

The paper is published In Participatory Design Conference 2026, Vol. 2: Exploratory Papers and Doctoral Colloquium (PDC 2026 Vol. 2), June 15–19, 2026, Milan, Italy. ACM, New York, NY, USA.
