Mads Bärenholdt defended his PhD thesis on loneliness among young people
On Friday, May 2, Mads Bärenholdt, defended his PhD thesis on loneliness among young people, entitled “Loneliness among youth: A design ethnographic study in a narrative framework”.
The opponents were:
- Professor Ottar Ness, Head of WellFare: Nordic Research Center for Wellbeing and Social Sustainability. Norwegian University of Science and Technology – NTNU
- Associate Professor Sissel Olander, Department of Visual Design, Royal Academy, Copenhagen
- Professor Nikolaj Elf, Department of Design, Media and Educational Sciences, SDU
In addition to attending the defence itself, the audience was invited to view the design ethnographic work, documented by Mads, consisting of archive material from codesign workshops and design ethnographic tools, including the conversation game “Hacked Uno”.
Nikolaj Elf comments on the thesis:
“An important thesis that points to new pedagogical ways to work with loneliness among young people, which may be due to negative elementary school experiences”.
